I get asked this more than anything else. What do you use, where do you buy it, who do you actually trust.
So here it is. Everything below is something I buy with my own money. Nobody paid to be on this list.
I have put what I buy from each one, because a lot of these brands make a hundred things and I only love two.
If you want to know how I decide, that is the checklist I use.
Skincare
Augustinus Bader
The Rich Cream. This is the splurge and I am not going to pretend otherwise. It is science led rather than all natural, so if you want strictly botanical this is not your brand. No fragrance, no parabens, no silicones, no phthalates.
Tata Harper
The one with real paperwork. ECOCERT licensed, with formulas certified under COSMOS natural standards. Grown and made on her farm in Vermont. I use the Regenerating Cleanser.
May Lindstrom
The Problem Solver. Raw botanicals, clays and oils, made in small batches by hand. The most genuinely natural thing on this list.
RMS Beauty
Founded by a makeup artist who got into this because she had her own products tested for heavy metals. Raw, food grade ingredients. The Un Cover Up is the one.
Ursa Major
A Certified B Corporation, and their highest score is in toxin reduction. They also refuse to do fear based marketing, which I respect a lot. The Fantastic Face Wash.
Saint Jane
The Luxury Beauty Serum. Botanical and CBD based, and it feels like a treatment rather than a step.
Goldfaden MD
A dermatologist brand, not a natural one, and they do not claim to be. But the Doctor's Scrub is the best exfoliant I have used and I am not leaving it off because it does not fit a category.
Living with Ivey
A shop rather than a brand, and a Florida one. Ivey vets everything she carries herself, and she already stocks a lot of what is on this list, including Augustinus Bader, RMS and Saint Jane. Stores in Palm Beach and on the Upper East Side, and she ships.
Activewear
MATE the Label
Organic cotton basics. A B Corp, Climate Neutral certified, and their garment dyes are GOTS approved. I live in the tees.
Sports Organics
Organic cotton sports bras and bike shorts. Worth knowing they are still working on their company level GOTS certification, so at this stage it is the fabric rather than the company. I wear them constantly anyway.
Bedding
Coyuchi
GOTS certified organic cotton, Control Union ID 827969, and Fair Trade Certified. My sheets.
Avocado Green
The most documented certifications I have seen anywhere. GOTS, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I, MADE SAFE, GREENGUARD Gold, EWG Verified. That is for the mattresses, toppers and pillows specifically. My mattress is theirs.
Or & Zon
Linen and percale bedding. They advertise it as GOTS and OEKO-TEX certified organic, and the fabric is woven at a family run mill in northern Portugal. Beautiful, and not everywhere.
Underwear
Kent
100% organic pima cotton, GOTS dyes. No plastics, no elastane, no petrochemicals. They are also compostable, which is wild. This is the one I tell everyone about.
Q for Quinn
A GOTS certified company, certified by Ecocert Greenlife. Underwear and socks. Great if you or your kids have sensitive skin.
And What I Make
I started MoonThreads because I could not find sleepwear that passed my own test.
100% grade 6A mulberry silk, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. The cotton pieces are made with GOTS certified organic cotton at a GOTS certified facility, by a Fair Trade employer in Nepal.
No polyester. No elastane. No chemical finishes. Certificate numbers on request, and I would rather you asked.
